Property equity: Estimating Equity Before Selling Costs
Property equity is the difference between current estimated value and outstanding property debt. It is a balance-sheet measure of the owner's stake.
Use the Property equity Calculator to enter your own figures and compare the result with the worked example below.
Property equity formula
Equity = Current property value − Outstanding property debt
Worked example
| Item | Example value |
|---|---|
| Current property value | 300000 USD |
| Outstanding property debt | 200000 USD |
| Property equity | 100,000 USD |
These are illustrative inputs, not current prices, rates or recommended targets. Where a currency is shown, keep all comparable money amounts in the same currency; conversion examples identify the two sides separately.
How to interpret the result
It is not the cash a sale will necessarily release. Selling fees, taxes and repayment charges can reduce net proceeds.
