Period growth: Comparing Growth Across Consistent Periods
Period growth measures the change relative to the earlier period. Compare equal durations and definitions before interpreting the percentage.
Use the Period growth Calculator to enter your own figures and compare the result with the worked example below.
Period growth formula
Growth (%) = (Current period − Prior period) ÷ Prior period × 100
Worked example
| Item | Example value |
|---|---|
| Current period value | 120 amount |
| Prior period value | 100 amount |
| Period growth | 20% |
These are illustrative inputs, not current prices, rates or recommended targets. Where a currency is shown, keep all comparable money amounts in the same currency; conversion examples identify the two sides separately.
How to interpret the result
A small base can produce a dramatic percentage. A zero or negative prior value requires special interpretation rather than a routine growth claim.
