Net cash flow: Separating Cash Movement from Accounting Profit
Net cash flow compares money received with money paid during a period. It helps explain funding pressure even when reported sales or accounting profit look strong.
Use the Net cash flow Calculator to enter your own figures and compare the result with the worked example below.
Net cash flow formula
Net cash flow = Cash inflows − Cash outflows
Worked example
| Item | Example value |
|---|---|
| Cash inflows | 10000 USD |
| Cash outflows | 8000 USD |
| Net cash flow | 2,000 USD |
These are illustrative inputs, not current prices, rates or recommended targets. Where a currency is shown, keep all comparable money amounts in the same currency; conversion examples identify the two sides separately.
How to interpret the result
Use actual cash timing and avoid including noncash expenses as payments. Loan proceeds increase cash but are not sales revenue.
