Long trade profit/loss: Calculating a Long Trade’s Gain After Fees
A long position gains when the exit price exceeds entry price before costs. Multiply the price difference by quantity and subtract the entered fees to find the modeled cash result.
Use the Long trade profit/loss Calculator to enter your own figures and compare the result with the worked example below.
Long trade profit/loss formula
P/L = (Exit price − Entry price) × Quantity − Fees
Worked example
| Item | Example value |
|---|---|
| Entry price | 100 USD |
| Exit price | 110 USD |
| Quantity | 10 units |
| Fees | 5 USD |
| Long trade profit/loss | 95 USD |
These are illustrative inputs, not current prices, rates or recommended targets. Where a currency is shown, keep all comparable money amounts in the same currency; conversion examples identify the two sides separately.
How to interpret the result
Include fees for both entry and exit where applicable. Financing, taxes and contract multipliers may require additional treatment.
