Earnings yield: Turning Earnings into a Price-Based Yield
Earnings yield expresses EPS as a proportion of share price. It is the reciprocal of a positive P/E when both use the same earnings and price.
Use the Earnings yield Calculator to enter your own figures and compare the result with the worked example below.
Earnings yield formula
Earnings yield = EPS ÷ Share price
Worked example
| Item | Example value |
|---|---|
| Earnings per share | 5 USD |
| Share price | 50 USD |
| Earnings yield | 10% |
These are illustrative inputs, not current prices, rates or recommended targets. Where a currency is shown, keep all comparable money amounts in the same currency; conversion examples identify the two sides separately.
How to interpret the result
Earnings are not necessarily distributed as cash. Do not treat this yield as equivalent to a guaranteed deposit rate or dividend yield.
