Tax refund / amount due: Reconciling Tax Paid with Final Liability
The refund or amount-due calculation compares payments and included credits with final liability. A positive result means the entered payments exceed the liability.
Use the Tax refund / amount due Calculator to enter your own figures and compare the result with the worked example below.
Tax refund / amount due formula
Refund (positive) = Tax paid and credits − Final tax liability
Worked example
| Item | Example value |
|---|---|
| Tax paid | 11000 USD |
| Credits | 1000 USD |
| Final tax liability | 10000 USD |
| Tax refund / amount due | 2,000 USD |
These are illustrative inputs, not current prices, rates or recommended targets. Where a currency is shown, keep all comparable money amounts in the same currency; conversion examples identify the two sides separately.
How to interpret the result
A refund is a reconciliation, not additional income earned. Avoid counting a credit twice if it already reduced the liability entered.
