Credit Card Payoff: Why a Fixed Card Payment Needs Room for Fees
A fixed payment works toward repayment only after interest and the entered monthly fee are covered. Run a second scenario with a higher payment to see how the repayment path changes.
Use the Credit Card Payoff Calculator to enter your own figures and compare the result with the worked example below.
Credit Card Payoff formula
Monthly interest = opening balance × APR / 12. We add the entered monthly fee, then subtract the fixed payment. The final payment is capped at the remaining balance plus interest and fee.
Worked example
A $600 balance at 0% APR with no fees and a fixed $100 payment takes six months.
These are illustrative inputs, not current prices, rates or recommended targets. Where a currency is shown, keep all comparable money amounts in the same currency; conversion examples identify the two sides separately.
How to interpret the result
The tool models monthly interest from APR. Actual cards may use daily balances, different balance categories and changing minimum payments.
