Break-even win rate: Finding the Win Rate Needed Before Extra Costs
The break-even win rate balances average wins against average losses. Larger average wins can lower the winning proportion required under the simplified model.
Use the Break-even win rate Calculator to enter your own figures and compare the result with the worked example below.
Break-even win rate formula
Win rate = Average loss ÷ (Average win + Average loss)
Worked example
| Item | Example value |
|---|---|
| Average loss | 100 USD |
| Average win | 200 USD |
| Break-even win rate | 33.333333% |
These are illustrative inputs, not current prices, rates or recommended targets. Where a currency is shown, keep all comparable money amounts in the same currency; conversion examples identify the two sides separately.
How to interpret the result
Use realized net wins and losses or account for costs consistently. The formula does not prove that a trading strategy can achieve those averages.
