Coinsurance share: Keeping Insurer and Member Coinsurance Shares Straight
This tool asks for the insurer's percentage of the eligible amount after the deductible. An 80% insurer share leaves 20% of that eligible amount for the member before other adjustments.
Use the Coinsurance share Calculator to enter your own figures and compare the result with the worked example below.
Coinsurance share formula
Insurer share = Eligible amount × Coinsurance percentage
Worked example
| Item | Example value |
|---|---|
| Eligible amount after deductible | 10000 USD |
| Insurer coinsurance percentage | 80 % |
| Coinsurance share | 8,000 USD |
These are illustrative inputs, not current prices, rates or recommended targets. Where a currency is shown, keep all comparable money amounts in the same currency; conversion examples identify the two sides separately.
How to interpret the result
Many policy summaries quote the member's percentage instead. Convert the quoted share before entering it and review any out-of-pocket limit.
